Resilience

video

“Resilience” is a concerto for clarinet and wind orchestra, commissioned by clarinetist Manuel Martínez. It was premiered by the North Texas Concert Band (USA), conducted by Andrew Trechsel. This musical work represents the emotional and psychological process of resilience as a cycle composed of four stages: solitude, anger, hope, and awakening. Each stage symbolizes a crucial moment in the path toward personal strength in the face of adversity.

  • Solitude: This is the starting point. It provides a space for introspection, where fears are confronted and the roots of suffering are identified. This phase enables self-analysis and the development of internal tools to face challenges.

  • Anger: It becomes an active force. Far from being destructive, anger—when channeled positively—drives change, helps to establish boundaries, and defends one’s rights, becoming a catalyst for growth.

  • Hope: Emerges as a guide in difficult times. It inspires perseverance, provides motivation, and opens the door to new possibilities. Hope is essential for maintaining an optimistic and renewing attitude.

  • Awakening: Represents a moment of clarity and awareness. It allows for the acceptance of repressed emotions and the recognition of the capacity for transformation. This stage is key to taking control of one’s life and moving forward with purpose.

Together, the piece sets this process to music as a journey of inner transformation, emphasizing that in the face of adversity, it is not only possible to endure, but also to grow and be reborn.
