Technology is an integral part of 21st century society. It is the subject of our live, to such an extent that shapes our day to day: it conditions our interpersonal relationships, marks the functioning and development of our careers and our leisure time and, finally, it has changed the perception of our reality and environment.
In summary, the human being has fallen unfailingly in the networks (quite literally) of a digital era on which we depend to a large extent.
Is it possible to live on the fringes of technology?
Are we all aware of what we have gained and what field have we yielded to technology? Can we be able to take charge of our destiny in this new reality by accepting the improvements that technology has brought to our lives and maintaining the social characteristics that are part of our essence as humans?

For Eb Clarinet and Wind Band

Apocryphos
for Clarinet and Tape
Apocryphos, which in Latin means “dune, mysterious, hidden” is the result of a collaboration and experimentation over the period of a year between composer Saul Gomez Soler, clarinetist Jose Franch-Ballester and music producer Raul Nacher. In order to create a unique piece in this genre, sound libraries from the world of cinema were used, in addition to collaborations with more than fourteen musicians whose performances can be heard on tape. The recorded portion of this work stimulates the imagination of the listeners through a palette of sonorities full colors, texture and fantasy.
The piece is structured in three movements.
I.- “Tenebris Monasterium”
is based on the image of a dark and mysterious monastery during the Middle Ages, represented by a melody in the style of a Gregorian chant. The piece incorporates dissonant and contemporary musical elements, while at the same time references musical styles that would have been known to those inhabitants who lived around the monastery, such as medieval dances and Sephardie’s songs of the Jews.
II.-“Mundus Novus”
is based on the image of an arrival to a new planet, full of beauty and tranquility. The musical language uses more futuristic sounds and electronic music of the 70s.
III.-“Finale:Triumphum Ingenium”
The celebration and conclusion to this musical adventure is a triumph of ingenuity, with more minimalist and cinematographic elements. The clarinet, which is the solo voice during the first two movements, steps into the background during a large portion of the third movement, helping to create textures and accompaniments through fast scales and arpeggios, which culminate toward the climax of the piece.
Spices is a commission from the trumpet player José Cháfer, to whom this piece is dedicated, to be played for the first time in the “43rd Annual International Conference of San Antonio, Texas”, in the USA in May 2018.
The piece is organized in different sections that make reference to the taste universe represented by combinations of different spices that stimulate that sense.
For that purpose, different elements are opposed:
·Stimulating the senses: The overture awakens our senses and invites us to discover a universe of contrasts.
·Fresh mint: a breath of fresh air for our palate and our ears.
·Sugar and cinnamon: a touch of sweetness that defines the good moments.
·Chilli pepper: an adventure towards an explosive sensory experience, do you dare to taste it? An intensity which is expressed with the excitement of our taste buds.
·Peppermint: the coolness of the fresh grass that invades us again with its enticing and herbal aroma.
